At Last, 2011

At Last at Hamiltonian Gallery, D.C. reinterprets the sculptural rendition of DaVinci's "The Last Supper" by Belgian artist Charles Albert Szukalski at the Goldwell Open Air Museum in the ghost town of Rhyolite, Nevada. After finding wild burro skulls during my desert mountain explorations, I connected the story of the Last Supper with the themes of Old Masters' Vanitas paintings. At Last combines this inspiration with the Amargosa Desert landscape (on the edge of Death Valley) and the local mining community of Beatty, Nevada.
